In the autumn months of 2012 satellite images showed the Arctic Sea Ice to be at a historical low. News outlets around the world relayed the story and its worldwide implications in terms of the effects of climate change.
As part of Earth Vision Institute, Svavar Jónatansson and Matthew Kennedy boarded the RV Lance, a former seal hunting ship, sailing from Longyerbyen. The course was set for the sea ice, as part of the University of Svalbard (UNIS) yearly research trip by students, teachers and independent scientists.
